Pearl, bead & gemstone re-stringing
I offer professional re-stringing of necklaces and bracelets, using appropriate specialist threads or silk. I work with all types of jewellery, from costume pieces to fine gemstones and pearls, with care taken to suit the materials, age, and condition of each piece. Re-stringing can be knotted or unknotted as required, and replacement clasps or gentle cleaning can be arranged where appropriate.

Why pearls usually cost more
Pearls are softer and more delicate than most beads or gemstones, so they require extra care during re-stringing. Specialist silk or thread is used, and each pearl is handled carefully to protect its surface and ensure the necklace wears safely over time. Knotted pearl necklaces also require precise, individual knotting to prevent pearls rubbing against one another and to reduce the risk of loss if the strand ever breaks. For these reasons, pearl and other delicate pieces are usually priced toward the upper end of the guide range.
Turnaround & care
- Typical turnaround: 5–10 working days
- All work is carried out with great care. Due to the delicate nature of some materials, including pearls, liability for breakage during re-stringing is limited.
Jewellery repairs, alterations & re-modelling
Services include:
- Lengthening or shortening of bracelets and necklaces
- Replacement of clasps, chains, and earwires
- Replacement of damaged beads or gemstones
- Cleaning and polishing of tarnished jewellery
- Re-designing or modernising pieces to give a fresh new look
- General jewellery repairs
Because this type of work varies widely depending on the materials, condition, and complexity of the piece, all repairs, alterations, and re-modelling are quoted on a case-by-case basis following assessment.
